Precipitated silica is porous with a BET surface area ranging from 20 to 300 m2/g. Using specific porogens, the porosity can be tailored to more than 1600 m2/g. Our partners and customers demand different porosities in the same device or a specific porosity gradient. A well defined pore geometry with internal connectivity are among common requirements for sorbents and catalyst support media.
Development of stable, high surface area media can lead to improvements over existing technologies. The reticulated surface allows for high mass transfer rates. Rapid, easy access of the pores helps achieve these rates while incurring an acceptable cost – the pressure drop incurred as the process fluid flows through the media.
In addition to silica, HST’s sorbent components may include oxide and non-oxide ceramics, carbon and metals.
